5 Signs Your Pool Pump Needs Attention

5 Signs Your Pool Pump Needs Attention

Your pool pump quietly does the most important job in the whole system, circulating and filtering the water. When it starts to struggle, the water is usually the first thing to suffer. Here are five signs it needs attention.

1. Unusual noise

A pump that suddenly becomes loud, grinding, or rattling often has worn bearings or a problem with the motor. Caught early, it is a repair; ignored, it is a replacement.

2. Cloudy water that won't clear

If your chemistry is balanced but the water stays cloudy, the pump may not be moving or filtering enough water, a sign of a blockage, a worn impeller, or a pump that is undersized for the pool.

3. Loss of pressure or weak flow

Weak returns and low filter pressure can point to a leak on the suction side, a clogged basket, or a pump losing its prime. It is worth investigating before the filtration suffers.

4. Leaks around the pump

Water pooling under or around the pump usually means a failing seal or fitting. Small leaks let air into the system and can burn out a motor if left.

5. It keeps switching off

A pump that trips or shuts down by itself is often overheating, sometimes due to age, sometimes electrical. This one is worth acting on quickly.

Repair or replace?

Not every ageing pump needs replacing, but an old, inefficient one can quietly cost a fortune in electricity. We'll give you an honest comparison so you can make the sensible long-term call.
